How to (really) be more organized

I admit, you’re not going to like it at first but it’ll grow on you: you have to find your WHY. Ask yourself this question: why do I want to be organized? To better manage my time, to be more productive, to reduce stress… Whatever it may be, but you have to determine your answer and stick to it.
Once you have that, let’s get practical.

1. Your calendar becomes your best friend.

You will put everything you’re doing into a calendar of your choice: Google Calendar, Ical… but it has to be a calendar, not a to-do list because with a calendar, you have the notion of time blocking: I will [insert task] from … time to … time. That will encourage you to actually get up and handle the task because you blocked a slot of your time in the day get it done — it’s not a simple reminder that you can delegate to the next day or week.

If you’re starting from zero or you want to try out a brand-new lifestyle, building or breaking habits is the most difficult step of the process. To overcome it, you have to firmly believe in your WHY.

2. Remind yourself of your initial goal.

Make a nice wallpaper with you goal displayed, a vision board… whatever can get you motivated achieving what you have to do.

3. Get to know yourself.

  • Do you tend to forget things easily? Put reminders, alarms, post-it notes of your tasks or ask someone to hold you accountable for it.
  • Are you the “I work better under pressure, I didn’t procrastinate” type? Put (healthy) pressure on yourself. Whenever you have an assignment, a project due or you have to cram for a test: Place the due date earlier than the specified due date. You’ll receive a reminder, get to work like you ordinarily do, but this time you’ll be a model student that gives assignments and projects in advance.

The goal is to hack your brain into being productive; you have to play the part.

Now let’s be real, you’re not going to be an organization master after reading this. However, if you have leads and things you want to try out: this article would have not been written in vain.

Let’s get active together ! 🌅
